At Rotmell Farm, we believe that healthy land creates healthy animals—and healthy animals produce nutritious food. That’s why our free range hens play a central role in our regenerative farming system. With access to expansive pastures, they live the way hens were meant to: scratching, pecking, and dust-bathing in the open air.

Room to Roam
Unlike conventional operations where hens may only see a small patch of grass, our hens roam across large fields. Our cattle and sheep regularly pass through the hens fields on a rotational basis, the hens help break down dung, eat fly larvae, and fertilise the soil as they go. It’s a partnership that improves the health of our pastures while letting the birds live natural, enriched lives.
Why Free Range Eggs Are Better
Eggs from free range hens don’t just taste better—they are better. Studies have shown that eggs from hens raised on pasture contain:
Higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids
More vitamin D (thanks to sunshine!)
Increased vitamin A and E content
Lower cholesterol and saturated fat
And it’s not just about numbers. Customers often tell us they can taste the difference—richer yolks, firmer whites, and a depth of flavour that’s hard to match.

Regeneration in Every Shell
As part of our regenerative farming approach, our hens don’t just live well—they contribute to the land’s long-term health. Their natural behaviours help us build soil, sequester carbon, and support biodiversity. Every egg is a small act of restoration.

So the next time you crack open a Rotmell Farm egg, know that it’s more than just breakfast. It’s a product of thriving pasture, happy hens, and a farm that puts nature first.
